General Description of MIT Program

Master in Information Technology (MIT)

1. The programme is entitled “Master in Information Technology (MIT)” and will be conducted by the Institute of Information Technology (IIT) of the University of Dhaka.
2. The programme extends over two-semesters/one academic year of full-time study. Classes will be held during normal working hours. The programme requires minimum 36 credit hours of course work. Course Outline and Schedule of the programme is as follows:

1 Credit = Total 14 classes per semester.
1 Theory Class = 1 hour Theory Class / week

 * Duration of the courses will be 16 weeks/Semester including Sessionals/Tutorials.
 * Examination and Result Processing time – 4 weeks.

3. Application form and Information for Admission (MIT Brochure) can be downloaded directly from the website of the Institute of Information Technology, University of Dhaka. Filled up application form should be submitted to the office of the Institute of Information Technology, University of Dhaka with payment of Tk. 500/- in cash. (from 02 May, 2011 to 25 May, 2011).
4. Eligibility for submission of application for the admission test are as follows:
(a) 16 years of Schooling, according to any one of the following structures –
 
S.S.C.(equ.)+H.S.C.(equ.)=12 Graduation=4 Total 16 years
S.S.C.(equ.)+H.S.C.(equ.)=12 Graduation=3, Master=1 Total 16 years
S.S.C.(equ.)+H.S.C.(equ.)=12 Graduation=2, Master=2 Total 16 years
S.S.C.(equ.)+H.S.C.(equ.)=12 Graduation=3, PGDIT=1 Total 16 years
(b) Having 4 years Graduation in Computer Science / Information Technology / Electronics / Communications (or equivalent degree) with at least GPA 2.5 out of 4.0 or 2nd Class approved by the equivalence Committee of IIT, OR,
Successful completion of PGDIT (or equivalent) having at least minimum GPA 2.5 out of 4.0.
(c) No third class/division (or equivalent)
5. Number of seats for MIT is limited to 35 (thirty five).
6. Properly filled in admission form is to be submitted to the office, Institute of Information Technology, University of Dhaka. Following documents are to be enclosed with the application:
(a) Attested copies of certificates and marksheets/grade sheets of all examinations.
(b) Three copies of recent passport size photograph of the applicant.
7. Schedule for the Admission Test:
 
Last date to submit the application May 25, 2011 (Wednesday)
Date of written test May 27, 2011 (Friday, IIT building, DU 3.00pm)
Publication of results of written test May 29, 2011 (Sunday)
Date of viva voce June 01-02, 2011
Publication of the list of eligible candidates June 05, 2011 (Sunday)
Orientation July 02, 2011 (Saturday)
8. Admission Test will be held in two phases:
  I. Written test (on OMR Sheet)
(a) All questions will be in English
(b) Questions will be objective/multiple choice type and/or written type.
(c) Total time will be 90 minutes.
(d) The test might have Computer, quantitative, Analytical and English Language proficiency.
II. Viva Voce
(a) Candidates for the Viva Voce will be selected according to their Written Test performance.
9. Fees and others:

  At the time of admission, a student has to pay a sum of Tk. 30,000/- [Registration/Admission Fee + Semester Fee (2 Semesters) & Course fee (37 Credits) for one Year + Co-curriculum fee + Caution money]
10. The above mentioned caution money is refundable after the successful completion of the course. Circumstances under which the caution money may be partially or totally forfeited, include but is not limited to:
 
(a) Carrying out any activity violating student discipline at DU during the course.
(b) Any intentional or unintentional activity resulting in any damage to DU property.
(c) Failure to complete all the two semesters, i.e., leaving the course without completing all the two semesters.
11. Grades in each subject will be assigned as follows:

12. Degree Requirement for MIT
 
(a) Completion of minimum 36 credits,
(b) Passing of all courses individually with at least D grade,
(c) Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 or above.
13. The registration for MIT is valid for 3 years after the date of registration.
14. After successful completion of the course, all the students will be awarded a certificate showing GPA and transcript showing details of grades obtained in various semesters.
15. The IIT authority will resolve any other points not mentioned in this document. Application for admission implies agreeing to abide by all rules and regulations of the IIT and also future decisions of the IIT.
